Screening for Type 2 Diabetes

November is National Diabetes Month. We should seize this time as an opportunity not only to increase awareness about diabetes, but to encourage screening for undiagnosed diabetes, which represents at least one-third of all people with diabetes mellitus in the United States. The challenge will be to identify the population to be screened, and then to develop innovative strategies to screen individuals who would not normally attend traditional screening opportunities such as clinic visits or health fairs.
